Understand the learner
We start with the learner’s views, their EHCP or support plan, and conversations with their family and professionals, followed by an initial assessment of their starting point.
SEND SUPPORT
One-to-one education for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, including learners with an EHCP who are out of school, awaiting a placement or finding it hard to engage.
We use the learner’s EHCP or support plan, the knowledge of the people around them and our own initial assessment to set achievable targets. Sessions are adapted to each learner’s communication, sensory and learning needs, and progress is reported against the outcomes agreed with the referrer.

An individual learning plan sets out SMART targets linked to EHCP outcomes, along with the adjustments and approaches that help the learner engage.
Visual supports, multi-sensory resources, movement breaks, flexible pacing and familiar routines: whatever helps the learner feel safe and ready to learn.
Attendance and engagement are recorded every session. We report on progress at agreed intervals and can contribute to annual reviews.
AREAS OF NEED
The SEND Code of Practice groups special educational needs into four broad areas. Many learners have needs in more than one, so every plan starts with the individual.
Including autism and speech, language and communication needs. Clear routines, visual supports and adapted language help learners take part with confidence.
Including moderate learning difficulties and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. Learning is broken into manageable, multi-sensory steps.
Including anxiety, ADHD, attachment difficulties and emotionally based school avoidance. Relationships, predictability and a gradual pace come first.
Including hearing, visual and physical impairments. Sessions, resources and venues are adapted, guided by the advice of specialist professionals.

Our SEND support is educational. It doesn’t replace speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, CAMHS or other clinical services, but we follow the advice those professionals provide and share what we learn with the team around the learner.
